‘King’ Kirk continues QLD domination

Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha racer ‘King’ Kirk Hutton smoked a strong field today to take the opening round win of the Yamaha South-East Queensland Enduro Series.

Hutton, 35, already holds the Queensland Enduro number one plate after winning the Yamaha Queensland Two-Day Enduro Championships in March.

The Kobble Creek (Pine Rivers Shire, Brisbane) resident finished this weekend’s contest at Cherrabah Resort (near Warwick) nearly 3.5-minutes ahead of second-placed Pro Chris Reading.

Fellow Yamaha riders, Kristian Sprenger and John Day, finished third and fifth. Chris Reading's younger brother, Jake Reading, came fourth.

“I was happy with how I rode this weekend,” Hutton said. “The WR250F was faultless and it surprised me a bit how fast I could go in the special tests... two of the four special tests were tight and technical, which were awesome for the 250F.

“We rode 14 tests this weekend, which was really good training. I need to train and ride as much as possible over the next six months in the lead-up to the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in October and the final rounds of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC).

“I’m riding the 250 in all the AORC rounds and the ISDE, so from now on I’ll ride it in all the Queensland races as well.

“I started off the year on the WR450F in Queensland and was able to re-claim the state title on it, which was great, and now I’m really enjoying the 250.”

Kirk’s next race will be rounds three and four of the AORC to be held next weekend (May 16 and 17) at Blayney (NSW). To enter or for more information go to www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au

His next Queensland race will be the second round of the SEQ Enduro Series on May 30 and 31. For more info go to www.qldenduro.com

Hutton has won four Australian championships, nine Queensland Enduro Championships, is the reigning E3 (big-bore) Australian Off-Road Champion and has won six International Six Days Enduro individual gold medals.

Kirk is also Queensland Agent for the Yamaha Academy of Off-Road Riding and runs two-day coaching schools, as well as one-day, half-day and one-on-one sessions.
