Hutton scores dual podiums at NSW Sprint Series opener Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha Pro E1 class rider, ‘King’ Kirk Hutton, has shown he will be a serious contender in this year’s Australian off-road contests with strong results at the first and second rounds of the NSW Sprint Series. Hutton rode his WR250F to 6th Outright and dual 2nd-place finishes in Pro E1 today and yesterday at the race, held at Gwandalan (NSW). “This weekend was good. The track was very physical, with lots of whoops and no time to rest,” Hutton said. “I used it as a training weekend to gauge where I was at with my speed - we did 14 laps this weekend, which is great training for me as there is no better way to train than actual racing. “I made a few small mistakes at the end of each day, which cost me a little bit of time. “But I now know what I have to do to go hard for the whole six to eight laps at the Australian Off-Road Championships. “The WR250F felt really good, I could push for the whole lap. It’s good for me training-wise to ride against other fast guys to hopefully bring my speed up. “I’ll go home now and practice more and hopefully have enough speed to go well at the AORC’s.” The Queenslander, from Kobble Creek (in the Pine Rivers Shire), has had a promising pre-season, winning the first two Queensland off-road events. Hutton has won four Australian championships, eight Queensland Enduro Championships, is the reigning E3 (big-bore) Australian Off-Road Champion and has won six International Six Days Enduro individual gold medals. Hutton’s next race will be the opening rounds of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championships (AORC) at Port Macquarie on March 7th and 8th.
