‘King Kirk’ cracks AORC top-10 twice
Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha’s ‘King Kirk’ Hutton rode to dual top-10 Outright and second-in-class-finishes at rounds three and four of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) held near Blayney (NSW).
Hutton, from Kobble Creek (near Brisbane), claimed second spot on the Championship E1 class podium in round three (yesterday) and round four (today) behind main 250cc rival, Ben Kearney.
The 35-year-old was also “very happy” to land seventh Outright today and ninth Outright yesterday against “some really tough competition”.
“My weekend went really well. The track was quite technical and tricky, I rode as fast as I could and gave it 100 percent,” Hutton said.
“The championship’s a long race and to get a pair of seconds is good because it was easy to crash and come no where.
“I’m pretty stoked to come seventh outright today, too, to get any where in the top-10 is really hard with the depth of talent of the guys around me.
“My WR250F worked really well, it ran faultless again all weekend. We were riding in thick, bull dusty ruts and my bike was pulling hard... I even beat a few of the guys on 450’s so that was good as well.”
Hutton said he would be spending tomorrow through Wednesday at a three-day training camp with fellow Team Australia riders for the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) to be held in Portugal from October 12th to 17th. Kirk has been selected as part of the six-man Senior Trophy Team.
Kirk’s next competition will be round two of the Yamaha SEQ Two-Day Enduro Series at Cherrabah Resort on May 30th and 31st. For more info go to www.qldenduro.com.
Kirk’s next national race will be rounds five and six of the AORC to be held at Murray Bridge (SA) on June 27th and 28th. For more info go to www.dirtbikepromotions.com.au
Hutton has won four Australian championships, nine Queensland Enduro Championships, is the reigning E3 (big-bore) Australian Off-Road Champion and has won six International Six Days Enduro individual gold medals.
Kirk is also Queensland Agent for the Yamaha Academy of Off-Road Riding and runs two-day coaching schools, as well as one-day, half-day and one-on-one sessions.
